Award highlights emissions saving potential of energy management system

19 November 2021

A Green Apple Environmental Award has been presented to Wates FM and JLL for the two companies collaborative efforts in creating an innovative energy management system (EMS),

Their partnership efforts have resulted in the creation of an EMS proof of concept system to deliver intelligent building management and reduce carbon emissions.

Funding for the project came from the profits of the Wates FM contract with JLL for its 45 Church Street, Birmingham facility.

The EMS system was piloted over 12 months, allowing the companies to closely monitor its performance and provide enhanced building performance.

One of the main features is a sophisticated data capture aspect that tracks energy usage and allows detail analysis of how this can be reduced.

Since the system was implemented at the 45 Church Street facility, air handling energy consumption has reduced by 27%.

More than 500 nominations were received by the International Green Awards, placing further significance on the two companies' success.

Wates FM has additionally gained Green World Ambassador status and its winning paper has been published in The Green Book, the international reference work for environmental best practice.

The company will also be entitled to represent the UK in the Green World Environmental Awards in future.
