Shortlist announced for London waste power facility

Three companies have been announced on the shortlist for the North London Waste Authority’s (NWLA) new energy recovery facility (ERF).

Costing £683m, the waste power plant will form a major part of the NWLA North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP) in Edmonton.

Those included on the shortlist include Acciona Industrial from Spain, CNIM Environment & Energie from France and Hitachi Zosen Inova from Switzerland, according to Infrastructure Intelligence.

Having been confirmed on the shortlist, the three companies will now engage with the invitation to submit detailed solutions stage.

Evaluations of the three submissions will take place in March 2021, followed by the subsequent dialogue stage a month later.

The NWLA plans to announce the winner of the contract towards the latter half of 2022.

It has stated that the NLHPP will be provide the best means to manage North London waste and is a vital element in tackling climate change and improving recycling levels in the area.

In addition to diverting 700,000 tonnes of waste from landfill every year, the facility will produce low-carbon heat and power for local homes and businesses and will include the best proven technology to control emissions.
