Public facilities set to benefit from government's recovery plan

29 June 2020

Further details of the government's Project Speed are due to be announcement as the UK continues to emerge from the Covid-19 lockdown.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak will chair the new Infrastructure Delivery Taskforce to lead the focus on the refurbishing and construction of public facilities.

In addition to the upgrade and building of schools and hospitals, improvements in road and rail infrastructure will also be included.

The government has pledged £250bn in the plan, designed to assist the UK in recovering from the financial impact of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Included in the plan is the upgrade and creation of 40 hospitals and four new prisons at a cost of £2.4bn.

Upgrading the UK road network will be supported by a £25bn investment programme and £40bn will be spent on Northern Power Rail.

Improvements in speed of completion of the projects is another aim of the taskforce, following the successful creation of the Nightingale hospital facilities in record times.
