HSE issues updated advice for businesses preparing to reopen

15 May 2020

Detailed information has been published by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to assist companies preparing to reopen following UK coronavirus lockdown.

Both small, low-risk businesses and larger companies, where risks may be higher, can view the guidance most relevant to them.

Minimum requirements within the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 include identifying anything that could result in injury or illness in each business, says the HSE.

This requires decision on the likelihood and seriousness of potential risks, followed by actions to remove or control them.

The HSE states that the steps to take for small, low-risk companies are clearly defined and straightforward.

Those requiring more detailed guidanceare advised to access The health and safety toolbox: How to control risks at work section of the HSE website.

Larger companies or those with a higher degree of risk are advised to download the HSE's Managing for health and safety (HSG65) document.

Businesses dealing with the highest levels of risk are advised to access the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) area of the HSE's website.
