Technical issues delay CSCS card applications for employers

Online applications for Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards are continuing to take longer than expected, but waiting times are reducing, according to the scheme's leaders.

Launched last December, the new service was designed to improve access to those registering for cards but has seen waiting times increase due to technical problems.

FM staff and service providers are advised to apply as early as possible for their CSCS cards to avoid any delays impacting on their construction projects.

CSCS chief executive Graham Wren said the majority of card holders "generally" see their card applications processed and delivered within three-to-five working days.

"However, employers applying for cards on behalf of their employees may be experiencing problems resulting in delays," he continued.

"CSCS are working hard to fix these issues and we apologies for the inconvenience caused," said Mr Wren.

The service has previously advised employers that applications from employers will see the cards issued within 10 working days.

One of the issues causing delays is the need to provide photographs rather than use the images taken when candidates sit their CITB health, safety and environment tests.

Mr Wren said the need to upload new photographs "was only ever intended as a temporary measure" whilst access to the CITB test database was completed.

"This work is nearing completion and once available applicants will not be required to submit a photograph," he said.

Mr Wren further stated that once the issues are resolved "applications will be faster and more convenient than any other means of application".
