FM drive to raise money to support Australian fire relief

10 January 2020

Five UK FM industry bodies have joined together with the aim of raising funds for the Australian Red Cross following the widespread fires around the country.

According to University of Sydney Professor Chris Dickman, approximately 480m animals have been killed since bush fires started in New South Wales last September.

More than 7m hectares of land have been burned and nearly 2,000 homes have been destroyed in Australia.

With 26 people confirmed as having died in the fire, six people remain unaccounted for so the total may rise further.

With the joint aim of raising funds to provide emergency assistance, the IFMA UK Chapter, IWFM, RICS, LBGT+ in FM and the Emerging Workplace Leaders are combining their efforts and encouraging all those in the FM sector to contribute.

Donations will go towards rescuing wildlife and supporting volunteer firefighters and also civilians who have lost their homes and possessions.

With thousands of people continuing to be evacuated on the Australian East Coast, material donations remain difficult to allocate until the fires are brought under control, further supporting the provision of financial donations as the most effect means of providing assistance.

Those wishing to donate to the initiative can do so here.
