PFM Awards seminars provide unique insight

10 April 2019

Yesterday saw the first seminars presented by the PFM Partnership Awards in the event's 26-year history, receiving highly positive feedback from both presenters and delegates.

Mike Forshaw and Matt Hellicar

Consisting of the first two sessions to open the seminar programme at The Hub theatre at The Facilities Event, taking place within Birmingham's NEC, the first session was delivered by three of the PFM Partnership Awards judges.

Featuring MMC Group Real Estate Jelf region manager Mayur Patel, BDO head of facilities sector Satvir Bungar and JLD Consultants founder Joanna Lloyd-Davies, delegates heard how the judges valued the opportunities provided by visiting the sites of all Partnership finalists.

All three judges confirmed that site visits were invaluable to determine which entry displayed the best aspects of partnership working and continue the awards' focus on the highest levels of integrity.

They confirmed that all entrants were treated equally and winners were only confirmed once all the visits had been completed and independently assessed to ensure that the most deserving winner is identified.

It was additionally explained that the judging visits are sometimes perceived as stressful by finalists, but the judges stated that in these circumstances they try to reassure all involved with the aim of making the meeting a relaxed and enjoyable experience.

Following the first session, the next featured the PFM Partnership Awards 2018 Overall Winner Dentons with Partnerships Matter, presented by co-directors Mike Forshaw and Matt Hellicar.

Having won the admiration of the PFM Awards judges, this included the recommendation that the Partnerships Matter concept should be adopted by the entire FM industry.

The presentation provided a wide-ranging view of the initiative that continues to gain momentum and has seen Dentons and its service providers working increasingly closely on a growing number of CSR projects.

It has replaced the former outsourcing arrangement, which had included fines for service providers when KPI targets were missed.

Projects adopted by Partnerships Matter range from supporting local schools, charities and other organisations through the donation of funds, equipment and resources, which frequently include individuals completing tasks such as painting and decorating in their free time, with perhaps the best example being the complete refurbishment of the Islington Sea Cadets building.

In addition to the benefits provided to the Islington Sea Cadets, the facility is also expected to be used by other local community groups, further extending the growing list of successes delivered by Partnerships Matter.

Those wishing to enter the PFM Partnership Awards 2019 have until 15 May to submit their entries, with more information available here.
