Serco acquires occupational health specialists, Grosvenor Group

02 June 2008

Serco Group announces today that it has acquired the total business of the UK’s leading independent occupational health service company, the Grosvenor Group. The purchase represents a major step towards Serco’s goal of becoming the UK’s leading provider of managed health services.

Grosvenor will not only provide Serco with greater access to the fast growing occupational health sector but also add new capabilities that will enhance its end-to-end managed health service proposition. In 2007 the Grosvenor Group turned over revenue
approaching £13m.

Serco will provide the former Grosvenor companies with a platform for future growth through its greater scale and geographical reach as well as access to its existing customer base, including contracts run on behalf of central and local government.

Grosvenor’s 239 employees, of which over two thirds are clinical professionals in occupational health, will join Serco with immediate effect. In addition, Grosvenor will also bring an established network of sub-contracted doctors, nurses and other clinical staff which will further extend Serco Health’s skills base and geographical coverage.

Grosvenor provides services to organisations of all sizes across the country with a flexible service model that enables on-site, mobile and remote delivery of occupational health services that can screen prospective employees, intervene to mitigate potential health risks, monitor absence and support rehabilitation of sick employees. All three Grosvenor operating companies, Grosvenor Health based in Redditch, West Midlands and the Glasgow-based Associated Health Specialists and Health Sure UK, will become part of the Serco Group.

Zafar Raja, MD Serco Health said, “The Grosvenor Group has an excellent and well deserved reputation in the UK’s occupational health market. Serco Health is already a major provider of primary health services in the UK with an extensive range of capabilities including clinical triage services, clinical case management, call handling and appointment management.

“The addition of Grosvenor complements and enhances our existing occupational health offering so that we are well placed to address further outsourcing of private and public sector health services in the future.”
