Study asks ''Are FMs preparing for climate change?''

03 April 2008

A PhD student at the University of Greenwich asks FMs to help with a major UK research project investigating the impact of climate change on FM practice in the UK particularly the need to adapt to or mitigate extreme climate changes. Take 10 minutes to complete the online survey. Key findings will be publsihed in PFM magazine.

Miss Api Desai is a PhD student at the University of Greenwich investigating the impact that climate change may have on UK Facilities Management practice. She is specifically looking into how a changing climate (more frequent and severe extreme weather events, heat waves, droughts etc) may impact business
organisations and on the strategies (particularly Facilities Management) that such organisations will need to put in place to either adapt to, or mitigate for, a changed climate.

Through her study she is attempting to establish best practice in Facilities Management that organisations can adopt as they develop strategies to cope with a changing climate. As part of this process she has developed a short electronic questionnaire (22 questions) to establish what importance organisations place on climate change and what actions experienced Facilities Managers are taking in response to it.

To this end she asks you to complete the questionnaire, it should take about 10 minutes of your time.
