First company achieves removal standard PAS 126

07 May 2008

Exclusive Move Solutions (EMS) have become the first removals company in the UK to achieve accreditation to the recently introduced PAS 126 Quality Standard for the Commercial Moving Industry. The PAS (Publicly Available Standard) is expected to be upgraded to the status of a full national standard (BS) by the end of the year.

Andy Carr (Managing Director of EMS) commented “This is the first Quality Standard that EMS has obtained and further proves our commitment to our clients in offering a Quality Service. I must praise my entire team for their help in this achievement, as not only are we the first to obtain the PAS, we achieved it without a single non conformance.”

BSI British Standards has published two new Publicly Available Standards (PAS) for commercial relocation services. These PAS have been developed in association with the British Association of Removers (BAR) and there are plans to adopt them as a full British Standard in due course.

The initiative came as a result of recent market research conducted by the Commercial Moving Group of the British Association of Removers (CMG) with a wide cross section of corporations across the UK, which highlighted their desire for an independently vetted standard for commercial relocation services. Although members of CMG operate a very high level of service, there was previously no objective standard by which to judge their performance.

Meeting the crieteria of these PAS, and eventually the standards, will be compulsory for membership of the CMG. Existing members of the group will have to achieve certification within 18 months from Feb 2008; companies wishing to join the group will need to be certified to the standards before being granted membership.

Distinction is made between the “service” in PAS 126-1:2008, and the “provision of the service” in PAS 126-2:2008. In this case, all the services agreed upon between the service provider and the customer within the framework of the contract, including characteristics which allow this said service to be assessed.

The systems of reference constitute a beneficial means of achieving the following objectives:
· to create a dialogue with customers which is favourable to the profession
· to permit customers to identify and compare the services offered by companies in order to benefit from the positive spin-off of fair competition in an open market
· to protect customers against provision of services, the characteristics of which may not be in compliance with the standards
· to allow the professionals of the trade to conduct their activity with the aid of technical specifications that are clearly defined by a common understanding.
