FMGC graduates have fast track to more management and leadership skills

27 March 2008

Sheffield Hallam University is one of the first universities in the country to sign up its FM students to the groundbreaking new Graduate Membership Scheme with the Institute of Leadership and Management.

The Facilities Management Graduate Centre (FMGC) are currently recruiting for the Undergraduate Certificate/Foundation Degree in Facilities Management starting in May 2008, and completion of this course will now lead to Graduate Membership of the Institute (GMInstLM )

The scheme also provides free studying membership of the Institute for the duration of studies to give students a head start in developing their management and leadership skills. Graduate Members have a special fast track route to the grade of Member of the Institute (MInstLM) after 3 years experience working in a managerial role (normally 5 years). Furthermore, if they have 5 years experience as a senior manager as well as a university degree or postgraduate degree, they would be eligible to apply for Fellowship, the Institute’s most prestigious grade (FInstLM). Management experience gained before they started their degree course is also counted.

The Certificate and Foundation Degree in Facilities Management offers a unique programme of accredited work based learning for individuals working in the facilities area, in both private and public sector organisations. The course is designed to exploit a whole range of opportunities for facilities staff to improve their knowledge, skills and performance.

Participants are offered a flexible study route which requires 2 day block study attendance per module at Sheffield Hallam University. It aims to broaden understanding and awareness of functions of the organisation and of the business environment in which it operates, and focuses on the skills and knowledge required by the informed client working in Facilities Management.
