First PAS99 awarded to Operon

07 February 2008

Operon has been named as the first FM company in the UK to be awarded PAS 99 accreditation by the British Standards Institute (BSI).

The Company, which employs over 1,000 staff, has been recognised for its integrated management systems combining three of the top performance standards - ISO9001 for quality, ISO14001 for environmental risk and impact on the environment, and OHSAS18001 for occupational health and safety management.

PAS 99 is the first publicly available specification for integrated management systems. It has been designed to provide businesses with a framework to build their systems around. The accreditation enables Operon to increase efficiency and provide continuous improvement in service delivery, as well as avoid duplication in routine procedures such as document control, auditing, training and administration. It also allows the company to minimise its impact on the environment through initiatives such as recycling and reducing energy use.

Stephen Ryan, director, Operon Central Support Services, said: “We’re delighted to be the first FM company in the UK to achieve this accreditation from the BSI and this reflects a great deal of hard work by the whole company. A lot of organisations work to individual standards but don’t have a system that combines all three. Being awarded PAS 99 demonstrates our commitment to providing a planned approach to these key areas and to maintaining consistently high standards.”

Tony Savage, BSI client manager, said: “PAS 99 is a major achievement for any business and Operon should feel very proud of their accreditation. It is testimony to the Company’s management and staff that they continually strive towards maintaining and improving their internal systems.”
