Johnson Controls launches: Global WorkPlace Innovation

07 February 2008

Johnson Controls Global WorkPlace Solutions has launched a new global network, Global WorkPlace Innovation, to develop and share the latest innovations by working in collaboration with leading centres of property and facilities management research around the world.

“This forward thinking initiative will identify future trends on a global scale,” said Guy Holden, VP and General Manager at Johnson Controls Global WorkPlace Solutions. “And for the first time, we are bringing together a wealth of valuable knowledge, which will help businesses to understand emerging issues and support them in developing their workplace strategies”.

The network has been developed from its predecessor, the successful Facilities Innovation Programme, which provided a range of online tools and research for facilities professionals. Central to the network is a new website, www.globalworkplaceinnovation.com.

“We have taken the Facilities Innovation model and supercharged it to go global”, commented Johnson Controls’ Marie Puybaraud, Director of Global WorkPlace Innovation, who has developed the R&D network. “Global WorkPlace Innovation is the next generation and will allow us to truly create a
virtual environment where we can explore and discuss what the future holds for the workplace. Innovators from around the world are also able to share their experiences and research online”.

Global WorkPlace Innovation is partnered by a number of professional institutions that have agreed to share knowledge content, including CoreNet and BIFM. The network will also link up Johnson Controls’ centers of excellence around the world including the Future Lab of its Automotive Experience business. Nick Xiromeritis, Senior Manager of the Johnson Controls Future Lab (Automotive Experience), comments: "Our partnership with the Global WorkPlace Innovation network is adding a new dimension to our research and development programme, which brings together the expertise and knowledge of the Johnson Controls Automotive Experience and Global WorkPlace Solutions businesses. This approach will enable us to anticipate and deliver advanced solutions to all of our customers. Already we have we have identified an exciting new project to collaborate on, which will look at synergies in designing car interiors specifically for mobile workers."

Through the website, Global WorkPlace Innovation will allow visitors access to the latest research and fresh thinking in workplace innovation, including:
Annual Flexible Working Survey – review data and participate
Survey of Corporate Real Estate (CRE) Management, which gauges attitudes to Corporate Real Estate and its importance on the coporate agenda. The research is undertaken by the University of Reading, in conjunction with CoreNet and Johnson Controls.
WorkPlace Futures – Report on how the workplace of the future will change and an overview of the drivers which will shape the places we work in the future
Technology Watch – Newsletter tracking technology for the workplace
VISIBLE - Smart Space Management and Real Time Occupancy Tool
MOBS - Managing and Occupying Building Sustainably – Practical toolkit and guidance
The Connected WorkSpace – Guidance and advice on the latest thinking and technologies
Global Mobility Network – Forum to share knowledge on trends in how and where staff work

“We already have a number of really exciting projects and we are looking to invest in more”, said Marie Puybaraud. “Later this month we will launch Generation Y and the Workplace (OXYGENZ) - a new research project that seeks to understand the importance university graduates and young employees attach to their future workplace. The objective is to gather survey data from final-year students, and those just starting to work, across the world to help us understand which attributes of the workplace are valued by Generation Y employees - the 18-25 years old.”

Johnson Controls Global Workplace Solutions is calling on different communities from around the world to engage with the network and come forward with their ideas, draw from the knowledge pool and participate in the ongoing research.
