Carillion completes Alfred McAlpine acquisition

13 February 2008

Carillion has completed the acquisition of Alfred McAlpine to become one of the UK’s largest support services and integrated solutions companies, with a combined annual revenue of around £5.3bn and 50,000 employees.

The combination of Carillion and McAlpine will create one of the UK’s foremost support services business with annual revenues of some £2.6 billion, serving both public and private sector customers, with an enhanced capability to provide integrated solutions, including private finance, design, construction, maintenance and support services.

Commenting on the acquisition, Carillion Facilities Management MD, John Platt, said: "The acquisition of Alfred McAlpine is a major milestone in Carillion's development. The combined Group will be one of the UK's foremost support services businesses, with significantly enhanced capabilities to provide integrated solutions for services, buildings and infrastructure, from private finance to life-time asset management.

“Not only does the acquisition strengthen Carillion’s integrated service offering but provides a number of cross-selling opportunities in environmental and design consultancy, IT services, traffic management, piling and mechanical & electrical maintenance. “

Carillion has four sector-focused business groups - Business Services, Infrastructure Services, Building and International - into which it will integrate the businesses acquired with Alfred Mcalpine - Business Services, Infrastructure Services and Project Services.

Business Services delivers integrated solutions including facilities management, mechanical and electrical engineering maintenance and design consultancy to the public and private sector. Public sector customers include the Ministry of Defence, Partnerships for Schools, Building Schools for the Future, NHS Trusts and many “blue chip” private sector customers including BT, Philips, Siemens, Norwich Union and AXA Insurance. Alfred McAlpine’s Facilities Management, IT Services, Asset Management and Consultancy businesses will become part of Business Services.

Infrastructure Services draws together Carillion’s expertise in the roads, rail and civil engineering sectors. Customers include the Highways Agency, Network Rail, CTRL, Environment Agency and Local Authorities. Alfred McAlpine’s Civil Engineering, Government Services and Utilities Services businesses will become part of Infrastructure Services.

Building provides a construction capability focused selectively on higher, added-value contracts for longer-term customers including News International, Asda, Arlington, Argent and Beetham Organization. Alfred McAlpine’s Special Projects business will become part of Building.

Our International businesses have well established operations in two regions, the Middle East and North Africa and Canada and the Caribbean. In the Middle East and North Africa we are a market leader, providing construction and facilities management services for high quality developments for long-term customers.
