Mouchel appoints MD for new government business

05 February 2008

Mouchel has announced the appointment of Steve Morriss as Managing Director of its ‘Government and Business Services’ division.

Mouchel, the consulting and business services group, has today announced the appointment of Steve Morriss as Managing Director of its ‘Government and Business Services’ division, a £250m turnover operation providing property design and management, highway engineering and business process outsourcing (BPO) services to a predominantly local government market in Britain.

Morriss joins Mouchel from Serco Solutions, where he was chief operating officer. He takes the helm of a new business division in Mouchel from March 10 combining its more established property and engineering business with its recently acquired capability in BPO. He comes from a civil engineering background, having spent the early years of his career at Atkins – where he became MD of its nuclear power business – before leaving to join Serco about four years ago.

Mouchel chief executive, Richard Cuthbert, said: “Steve’s appointment is a significant move for Mouchel. With the acquisition of HBS last summer, our service offer to central and local government moved to a different scale, allowing us to target some of the largest bundled service outsourcing deals around the country. As such, a leader with the credentials and perspective needed to create further growth for us in this market was essential and Steve fits the brief in every way. He will join the company’s Group Management Board, working alongside our other businesses in highways, regulated industry and consultancy.”

Mouchel’s Government and Business Services division currently accounts for around 60 per cent of the Group’s forward order book and is similar in scale to the company’s highway services business. Mouchel reported turnover of around £450m for 2006/07 and will be reporting interim trading results for 2007/08 in March. The company employs around 11,000 staff, predominantly in the UK public and regulated sectors.
