New Bilfinger Europa apprentice proves to be a real bright spark

23 February 2017

Bilfinger Europa Facility Management has welcomed the latest apprentice to join the company.

Ffion Bell, 18, has been appointed as the latest electrical apprentice to work on Bilfinger Europa’s long-standing partnership with RSA Insurance Group, for whom Bilfinger Europa delivers services including maintenance, electrical works, cleaning, catering and security.

Based in Halifax, West Yorkshire; Ffion joined the Bilfinger Europa team after first undertaking an Electrical Installation City & Guilds course at Calderdale College.

She was made aware of the apprenticeship opportunity through JTL Training and, after impressing Bilfinger Europa Account Director Sue Lumsden-Smith during interview, was immediately offered the job.

Ffion said: “After I finished my A-Levels I knew that I didn’t want to go to university, however I was very interested in learning a trade. I didn’t fancy plumbing, but an electrical role really appealed to me.

“I know some people will think that it is an unusual career choice, especially for a young woman, but I’m really enjoying it and it’s an added bonus to secure such a great position with a national company in my home town.”

Since joining the Bilfinger Europa team, Ffion has worked closely with Facilities Manager Julia Hutchinson and experienced electrical engineer Dan Gale.

Julia said: “Ffion has come in and been very professional right from the start and demonstrated an enthusastic and mature approach to her work.

"She has already proved to be a great addition to the team based at RSA and I’m sure she’ll go on to achieve great things in her career.“

Tracey Grobler, RSA UK FM Operations Manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ffion to the Bilfinger FM team at RSA and to be supporting her whilst she trains in her chosen profession.“

Richard Dady, JTL Head of Product Development, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Ffion to gain an industry standard qualification at Level 3 in the Electrical Installation, Building Engineering Services Sector, which can lead on to many other opportunities including further qualifications up to Degree Level.

“Many learners completing the Level 3 qualification go on to careers in management and some start their own successful businesses. JTL will support Ffion at every step of the way to achieve this qualification.“
