700 companies sign-up to cut carbon

Seven hundred organisations across the UK signed up to cut carbon emissions from their buildings during the 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up Campaign run by The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), in association with E.ON.

This is the second ‘100 Days of Carbon Clean Up Campaign’ and was launched back in September this year with big names like BBC Wales, Brent Cross Shopping Centre and Bolton Wanderers Football club all taking action during the period, along with London’s Natural History Museum, National Portrait Gallery and National Gallery. A large number of smaller organisations also played an important role in raising awareness and working toward a more sustainable future.

CIBSE President John Armstrong said: “We are delighted that so many organisations took the positive step of signing up to the campaign and making a pledge to cut carbon emissions from their buildings. The enthusiasm and involvement of staff members from every department has been very encouraging and we hope they will continue along the same path.”

Now the campaign is over, many of the participants will be entering their organisations for the Low Carbon Performance Awards, taking place on the 6th February, to show what steps they took, how much progress they made and plans for the future. Participants of the campaign are eligible to enter four categories, the awards for which are being presented by yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur.

Ellen MacArthur became champion of the 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up Campaign thanks to her on-going partnership with the campaign sponsors E.ON. Ellen continues to work with E.ON helping to raise awareness of the simple steps their business customers can take to be more energy efficient - a message emphasised in the 100 Days Campaign.
