OCS education scheme wins top award

03 December 2007

OCS Integrated Services have won a prestigious STAR Award at the Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) Awards ceremony in the Category 'Outstanding Contribution to Workforce Development' for its scheme at Ipswich Hospital to develop the skills and integration abilities of the cleaners and caterers whose first language is not English.

The QIA STAR Awards, now in their fourth year, recognise the dedication and expertise of those who, on a daily basis, are making a significant contribution to improving the skill level of young people and adult learners. Over 1000 nominations were assessed during the selection of overall winners in ten categories.

Mark Coppard of OCS Integrated Services Healthcare said, “We were judged to have demonstrated outstanding achievement for our work at Ipswich Hospital in developing the skills and integration abilities of the cleaners and caterers whose first language is not English. The project has been enormously rewarding for all involved and I am delighted that it has been recognised with this Award.”

Speaking at the Awards Ceremony, held at Old Billingsgate, London, David Lammy MP, Minister for Skills said, “The STAR Awards celebrate quality and achievement, encouraging teachers and leaders to share best practice. Practitioners must be praised for their huge professionalism and outstanding dedication helping learners achieve their potential and develop their talents.”

Chris Cracknell, OCS chief executive, commented, “I congratulate all those involved on this achievement. We have always viewed training and education as a high priority. We support the Skills Pledge which provides a framework for ensuring all employees are given the best opportunity to maximize their potential and this project at Ipswich Hospital is an excellent example of our commitment to its aims.”
