20 November 2007

Scolarest has been awarded school catering three contracts worth more than £8.8m in total turnover in the north west of England catering services to schools by Land Securities Trillium who manages schools in the Wirral, Liverpool and Salford under Private Finance Initiatives.

Scolarest will be providing catering services at 12 secondary schools, 13 primary schools and three special schools, with more than 16,000 pupils between them. It has been awarded a six-year contract, worth £7.4m in total turnover by Land Securities Trillium to provide catering services to eight secondary and one primary school on the Wirral. The company has also been chosen for a £1.1m turnover one-year contract – with the possibility of an extension - to deliver catering services at four secondary and 12 primary schools in Liverpool. Both contracts started in September 2007.

Scolarest has also been selected by Land Securities Trillium for a four-year contract, worth £381,000 in total turnover, to provide catering services to three special schools in Salford from the end of October.

Scolarest has introduced menus which focus on healthy, home-cooked meals featuring fresh vegetables, fruit and salads. The company’s nutrition team ensures that all menus meet Government standards providing students with the right balance of foods and the energy they need to sustain them throughout the school day. The menu development process ensures that healthy options are attractively presented and easily accessible.

“The award of these major contracts reflects Scolarest’s strong track record in delivering successful catering solutions for PFI schools,” says Tony Byrne, business director for Education at Compass Group, Scolarest’s parent company. “We will be continuing to work closely with Land Securities Trillium and with the schools to provide pupils and staff with great-tasting meals which are nutritionally balanced, fully meet Government standards and, importantly, which appeal to children and young people.”
