Royal Philips Electronics has introduced a new compact fluorescent lighting system which only requires upto half the energy to produce a given amount of light. The MASTER PL-R Eco is also characterised by fast return on investment, simple installation and greater robustness. In addition the new system will also indirectly save a significant amount of CO2 and contribute to reducing the increase in greenhouse gasses.

50% less energy: A new design of both lamp and ballast, with special attention paid to optimising the interaction between the two, has resulted in much-improved efficacy. This in turn means lower amounts of electricity are required to generate the same amount of light. MASTER PL-R Eco uses 25% less energy than comparable PL-C/T-based high-frequency compact fluorescent systems and 50% less than PL-C/T-based electromagnetic compact fluorescent systems.

Yet this lower energy consumption has no influence whatsoever on the lighting quality. The MASTER PL-R Eco would typically be used in offices, public buildings and hospitals, as well as in retail applications like supermarkets for creating a pleasant shopping ambience. It should be of particular interest to those who are looking for a rapid return on their lighting investments.

The lamp is sustainable in more than just energy use. MASTER PL-R Eco has the lowest mercury content of any non-integrated compact fluorescent lamp available. It is a designated Green Flagship product as well, meaning it offers substantially better environmental performance than its predecessor or closest commercial competitors on energy consumption, packaging, hazardous substances, weight, recycling & disposal or lifetime reliability.

The improved lamp holder & base, with a simple twist-and-lock connection, means there is far less force on the luminaire during removal and replacement. This prevents damage and simplifies the procedure. In addition, the compact and appealing design of both holder & base means they don't have to be hidden in the luminaire, which opens up new design possibilities.
