It warns that smoking shelters must be subject to fire risk assessment, made of non-combustible materials and, where practicable, sited at least 10m away from any building or structure. Metal ashtrays and a separate metal waste bin with a fitted lid should be provided and removal of smoking waste monitored. In addition, raised, slatted floors and decking should be avoided because combustible debris could accumulate underneath.
