Donaldsons acquired by DTZ
DTZ has this week acquired the business and assets of Donaldsons LLP, the privately owned, UK-based property consultancy, for an initial consideration of £39.8m, plus deferred consideration of up to £8.8m. The transaction will significantly enhance DTZ's service offering in much of Europe, particularly in retail property. The combined business will fully adopt the DTZ brand name from Autumn 2007 and the merger will create a pre-eminent retail property adviser.

Bank holiday 'Big Switch Off'
Npower is calling on businesses to join the 'Big Switch Off' campaign and to switch off equipment and lighting before leaving work for the August Bank holiday weekend (25th to 27th August). A survey conducted by npower recently has also found that only one third of employees received information from their employers about saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions in the workplace.

MacLellan banks major new deal with Abbey
Interserve's MacLellan Retail Services has secured a major new contract with Abbey to provide fully integrated cleaning services solution to 356 branches in the north and central regions. The two-year contract, worth £1.4 million p/a includes branch cleaning, window cleaning and periodic cleaning.

UK companies waste £18bn through poor use of property
Inefficient use of property costs £18bn according to a study by the University of Portsmouth sponsored by Fasset. The study, entitled The Significance of Flexibility, explores returns on investment issues with property and facilities managers. The report states: " Lack of understanding in boardrooms of the contribution of property to financial returns and shareholder value means that companies may in some cases be damaging their financial performance - and with it, shareholder value."

UPP invest £200m in university sector
The University Partnerships Programme (UPP) is to invest £200m in projects at Lancaster and Loughborough Universities, delivering and managing nearly 2,300 new student rooms in both institutions. At Lancaster University, UPP will deliver nearly 1,000 rooms and launch a new sustainable model for eco-friendly student living - the UPP/Accent Student Home. At Loughborough University, it will deliver 1,300 new student rooms in a £60m scheme.

Awards for 'cleanable' buildings
Nominations are open for the 2007/2008 Building Cleanability Awards organised by The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners and presented in June 2008. There are 10 categories covering commercial, public, education, transport, heritage, retail, health, leisure, hospitality and sports buildings. There are special awards for new build and refurbishment projects, and for the most environmentally aware building. Nominations close on 31st December.

Hospital mail services contract
MailSource UK has been selected by Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust to provide mailroom services, management of postal and courier services and the secure transit of medical records. MailSource will work with Trust staff to identify further areas for service improvement and cost reduction.
