Donaldsons and ISS Coflex form estates and FM business
Property consultants, Donaldsons has teamed up with ISS Coflex to launch Spectrum IPS, an integrated estates and FM business in an innovative 10 year evergreen partnering agreement. Spectrum IPS offers a single point of contact for all property management needs, including accommodation strategy and maintenance services, and will, it is claimed, lower costs by up to 30%. Commenting on the development, Alan Newton, Change Director of ISS Coflex, said: "Clients benefit from the efficiencies created by facilities and corporate real estate teams working together as a single team, as well as the strategic advantage that instant access to up-to-the-minute, accurate property data delivers.” Donaldsons client list for corporate property services includes Barclays, WH Smith, Home Office and National Australia Bank, and ISS Coflex offers FM services to the likes of Renault Nissan, Lloyds of London and Microsoft.

New standard for IT services
The BSI has produced a PAS 77:2006, a new code of practice for implementing, delivering and managing IT service continuity. Produced in partnership with Adam Continuity, Dell Corporation, Unisys and SunGuard, it provides guidance on aspects of IT service continuity management and compliments other existing and international standards such as PAS 56, BS ISO/IEC 20000, BS ISO/EC 17799 and ISO9001.

Innovation rewarded at TWM
First impressions of last week's Total Workplace Management and its co-located sister events SEEE, M&E, AMPS Power and Context at Olympia suggest that this combination of events gave the visitors essential added interest. One highlight was the presentation of the first TWM Innovation Awards in association with PFM. The winners by category were: B.I.G's time expiring Timebadge system for Best Workplace Design Innovation; Pordum Foods' Bon Appetit Little Tasty Food Outlet for Best Workplace Management Product or Service; Tarmac's Termodeck and Thermocast systems for Best Sustainability Innovation; and Armstrong's MBS Integrated Heating Solution Best Innovation in Building Services.

100 day Clean Up cuts carbon emissions
More than 550 companies took part in the CIBSE's 100 days of Carbon Clean Up which ran from 5 June to 12 September and on average reduced carbon emissions over the period by 93 tonnes of CO2 - equivalent to 530 double decker buses. Awards went to HLM Architects, United Business Media, Copthorne Hotel, The Peacock Group, Lacey Hickie Caley and Wandsworth Council.

The new National Trust headquarters scooped two awards at the BIFM Gala dinner on Monday night this week. Ian Broadbent, Group FM with Hallmark Cards won FM of the Year and LST's Judi Hall was named Student of the Year. The full list of winners is available on the BIFM website.

MITIE opens new security branch in Wales
MITIE has opened a new security branch office in Bridgend to support increased customer demand in South Wales and the South West of England. The new branch, located two minutes from Junction 35 of the M4, will improve response times. The team of 280 officers and personnel already provide security at over 80 client sites to customers including Tesco, S.A Brains and Centrica.

PPP equity sale nets £46m
Carillion has completed its sale of equity holdings in eight fully operational PPP projects announced in September. (see FM Report 180) The projects are HMP Altcourse, Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre, Medway Secure Training Centre, HMP Rye Hill, Manchester Magistrates Courts, East Anglia Courts, Humberside Courts and Leeds Schools. The sale generated £46m and an exceptional profit of £22m.

Lifeline for cleaners
MITIE Cleaning and Support Services has launched a multi-lingual Lifeline Card for its 20,000 cleaning employees. It provides them with a 24-hour access to emergency telephone numbers for a variety of minor or major incidents and accidents.The card comes in the 12 main languages used by MCSS staff.

Experienced consortium leads bid for Olympic stadium design

Action on eight key points have been called for by the Buncefield Standards Task Group at major petroleum facilities. These action points relate to pipeline transfers, tank overfill prevention, fire safe shut-off valves and remotely operated shut off valves, containment bunds and shift handover.
