Time to act on sluggish salaries (May 2012)
It is no surprise to anyone that our annual salary survey showed little to get excited about in 2012, so should we all sit back and wait for the good times to return before expecting a pay increase of any significance?

What the judges look for (Apr 2012)
Submitting a successful entry is not easy. Not only do you need a great partnership project, you need to present it in the right way. Tim Fryer asked some the expert judges what makes a good entry…

Everyone’s a winner (Apr 2012)
Now entering my second cycle of the PFM Awards, I remain hugely impressed at what they achieve. Here, with the help of the expert judges, I explain some of the reasons why.

All praise the budget to forget (Mar 2012)

As budgets go, the one last week (21st March 2012) wasn’t the most interesting, but on the whole ‘uninteresting’ is a result that most people are happy with.

Beware the buyer on the run (Mar 2012)
I spent several pleasant hours in the company of Noel Clancy earlier this week. Noel is CEO of Shepherd FM and is one of a breed who cares passionately about training his employees to do a job well, and this was the general topic that formed the basis of our conversation.

Fact or fiction? (Feb 2012)
I was sitting in a conference the other day listening to negativity. During the course of the day I heard that the industry was moving into decline, that single service providers would die, as would the exciting technology of telepresence, and that the industry had to redefine itself if it is to exist.

Lacking leadership? (Feb 2012)
In a business sector that is entirely dependent on the performance of people, the quality of leadership is critical. But are there enough quality leaders out there and where is the next generation coming from?

What are the issues in FM? (2 comments) (Feb 2012)
Interesting question. It was one bandied about at a round table meeting I was at this week. The trouble with ‘issues’ is that they are mostly seen in the negative sense.

DIGITISATION OPENS DOOR (Jan 2012)
The Co-operative Group is building a 14 storey HQ in Manchester. Had it not been for its move to ‘less paper’ practices then a further two storeys would have had to be built to accommodate the paper generated by the organisation – an expensive filing cabinet! Tim Fryer went to see the project in action.

Only a bronze medal for silver service at golden games (Jan 2012)
It may not be ‘hold the front page’ news, but we are soon to have an Olympic games taking place in this country.

A happy and prosperous new year? (Jan 2012)
A couple of days into the new working year and for many the Christmas break, if you had one, will seem as distant as my garden fence after this weeks winter storm. My fence, for those who are concerned, has since been recovered and is piled up like a Guy Fawkes bonfire, which is appropriate as that is all that it is now good for.

Merry Christmas! (Dec 2011)
As this is the last issue of FM Report for 2011, the staff of PFM would like to wish all of our readers of PFM, FM Report and FM Innovations (although there is still another issue of this coming your way next week) a very merry Christmas and a happy and productive 2012.

Solutions with the X-Factor (Nov 2011)
Of the recurring themes in the FM industry, the need to embrace new technology is at the forefront, writes Tim Fryer who has recently been impressed at what was on offer at a recent trade show.

Made with love! (Nov 2011)
When supplying lunch to nearly a million of the UK’s workforce every day, BaxterStorey has to be better than the alternatives. The company’s Chief Executive Noel Mahony told Tim Fryer the secret – ‘make it with love!

Comment - The right connections (Oct 2011)
Of the recurring themes I am finding in the FM industry, the need to embrace new technology is at the forefront.
