There are six finalists in three partnerships in this year's Partners in Expert Services category. These include Wilson Vale with Belron International; Vinci Facilities with the Welsh Government; and VSG with John Lewis.

Wilson Vale with Belron International
Moving offices is never easy but moving two offices into one comes with double the challenges. When Belron International (Belron – a vehicle and glass repair and replacement company) moved its 130 employees from sites in Richmond and Heathrow to a new corporate office at Milton Park in Egham, Surrey in January 2011, Wilson Vale played a role in the complex relocation process – and in realising Belron’s vision for its employees. In the true ‘Spirit of Belron’, Wilson Vale and the facilities team worked as one to ensure the health and wellbeing of employees, to develop the food offering, to increase uptake of the catering service, to achieve business savings and to create a unique working environment at Milton Park. This is a story of Wilson Vale’s ‘can-do’ attitude which resulted in a massive increase in uptake of the catering service, with about 90+% of Belron staff choosing to eat in-house. Staff restaurant takings have increased by 300%, as has hospitality. Using in-house services for hospitality has resulted in a 382% cost saving for Belron last year alone. Life at Belron isn’t just about 9-5; it's about a community of people who enjoy what they do as well as creating a positive culture. The working relationship between Wilson Vale and Belron has made this possible through co-operation, understanding and innovation.

Vinci Facilities with the Welsh Government
The Welsh Government office at Llandudno Junction is the largest of the three new offices at 8802m² in size and is a BREEAM excellent rated new build office, which accommodates 650 members of staff of various disciplines and includes Welsh Ministers. Vinci Facilities Management were appointed as the soft FM contractor for the Llandudno Junction office and for the wider Welsh Government administrative estate in North Wales in 2010 for a period of three plus two years. Vinci took the decision to self-deliver all of the services onsite to retain complete control of the delivery. The services include housekeeping, portering, post room, reception, ground maintenance, pest control, recycling, window cleaning and security services. From the outset Vinci has been looking at continuous improvement in the delivery of the services and investment in its staff and their skills through their Internal Training programmes and BICSc.

VSG with John Lewis
Historically John Lewis Partnership focused on external theft. Analysis showed that stock was also at risk in the distribution centres, one of which holds over 350,000 lines. In 2013 a new profit protection model was developed that extended the focus to all areas of the supply chain, requiring new skills such as analytical, statistical and process thinking. A national contract for manned guarding was awarded to VSG.  It is outcome based using risk and intelligence as opposed to hours to assess guarding requirements. The goal was to create a team that would positively engage with site partners to promote profit protection activities, detect, deter and prevent wrong-doing, as well as establishing a mobile team to boost profit protection at all of the distribution centres and customer delivery hubs (40 sites) particularly during peak. The Profit Protection Hit Squad is a team of highly trained mobile officers who are deployed unannounced to specific locations during peak times. This is when stock levels are at their highest and the number of distribution staff increases threefold relying heavily on part-time labour. The ‘squad’ examines vehicles, workstations and lockers as well as undertaking personal searches, and security and health and safety checks.
