Rentokil launches post-pest disinfection service

28 October 2013

New service reduces the disease causing organisms found in the waste often left behind by pests

Rentokil Pest Control has launched a new pest disinfection service which reduces the risk of the illnesses associated with pest infestations. Pests can carry bacteria and viruses which can pose a serious health risk to people and pets.

These pathogens may be spread throughout an infested property via urine and faeces, as pests forage for food and build nesting sites. Infection can then occur through skin contact (particularly through cuts or wounds), or by consuming contaminated food or water. Rodents, insects and birds can carry a range of disease causing pathogens; including Salmonella, Hantavirus, Leptosprosis and E.Coli.

Rentokil's new pest disinfection service uses a unique biocide to combat this threat; the disinfectant used in the service kills up to 99.9999% of pathogens and contains a Reactive Barrier Technology (RBT), which means the product remains active for up to seven days.

The pest disinfection service is applied in the form of a spray or mist to all areas of a property, affected by pests. It is non-corrosive, non-staining and safe to be applied to any surface including plastic, soft metals and fabric. The biocide is effective against bacteria, viruses, moulds and fungi (including spores), and can be used in all types of premises from warehouses, to office buildings and residential homes. Importantly, as the product is food-safe, it is also suitable for use in restaurants and food outlets.

Colm Moore, Area Technical Manager, Rentokil Pest Control comments: “If a business or home is faced with a pest infestation, it is vital to deal not only with the unwanted visitors, but also any disease causing organisms they may have left behind. Our pest disinfection biocide kills up to 99.9999% of pathogens, including those associated with pest infestations including E.Coli and Salmonella, ensuring staff and family members remain safe.”

Alongside the pest disinfection service offered by Rentokil Pest Control, specialist cleaning and disinfection services including property clearance, biohazards and crime scenes, are provided by Rentokil Specialist Hygiene, with a 24-hour response service unit for extreme situations.
