Cambridge shopping centre manager wins prestigious award

28 June 2018

A dual service manager has been recognised for his dedication and leadership at a shopping centre in Cambridge.

Ian King, who was brought in as Security and Cleaning Contract Manager for the Westgrove Group at The Lion Yard Shopping Centre in Cambridge, has won an industry award for his work.

Ian won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the regional British Security Industry Association awards and was praised for introducing a vast amount of health and safety and customer service initiatives to the busy shopping centre.

Despite having to take time off to recover from a heart attack and look after his wife, the former military personnel stayed committed to his job.

The BSIA holds awards both regionally and nationally to celebrate some of the outstanding personnel within the security industry who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their everyday work.

The regional award winners, which now go forward to the BSIA’s panel of national judges, serve to recognise the outstanding achievements and long-term commitments of those working within the UK’s private security industry.

The winners will be presented at the British Security Awards in London on July 11.

Westgrove Group Managing Director Claire McKinley Smith said: “This is our fifth consecutive year of BSIA awards and as always we are very proud of our security officers for their dedication, loyalty, teamwork, customer service, use of technology and their bravery.”

James Kelly, CEO of the BSIA said: “It is important that we recognise the true value of security personnel. They are often the first responders in times of emergency and play a vital role in keeping the public safe.

“This year’s Security Personnel Awards regional winners are testament to the truly high calibre of personnel we have working within our industry. We received a high number of fantastic nominations this year, making the judging process a tough one.”

The Westgrove Group is one of the largest independent security and cleaning companies operating alongside the larger PLC’S.

Based in Warrington in the North West, the company – which celebrates its 20th anniversary later this year – employs over 1,000 people in over 50 shopping centres across the UK working with major landlords and managing agents including CRBE and Savills UK.
