Major stake acquired in bespoke waste solution provider

21 March 2018

With consolidation continuing in all areas of the FM sector, the latest move has seen Vertas Group acquire a majority share in waste management and pest control service provider MMB Environmental.

Although no financial details were included in the announcement, Vertas Group stated it was part of its drive to become a TFM provider.

Warwickshire-based MMB will now be rebranded as Vertas Environmental to combine with other services offered within the group, including property management, security, contract catering and cleaning.

MMB includes well-known organisations such as Bannatyne Group, Global Exhibition Specialists and Zenith Contract Services in its list of clients for which it has designed and operated bespoke waste management services.

Vertas stated that the deal will strengthen its environmental and sustainability credentials. One example is the catering service it provides for approximately 400 schools, stating that since 2016 MMB has been converting the used cooking oil into biodiesel.

Plans are being formulated for the biodiesel to be used to power the group's grounds maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers and hedge trimmers.

Vertas stated that its next priority will be to remove as much plastic as possible from the group’s catering division.
