AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK leads the way in sustainability

30 January 2018

AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK has been awarded the Best in Combined Reduction for Carbon, Water and Waste for 2017.

The award recognises the best overall performer from all companies that hold the Carbon Trust Triple Standard – acknowledging its commitment to and achievements in sustainability.

Since 2009, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK has reduced the carbon footprint of all operations by 37%, water usage by 24% since 2010 and waste output by an impressive 42% since 2011.

The Carbon Trust works closely with businesses, governments and the private sector to accelerate the move to a sustainable and low carbon economy.

Having been certified to the Carbon Trust Standard since 2009, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK is one of only a handful of companies to hold the accreditation for this number of years.

As part of AkzoNobel’s commitment to long-term value and positive social impact, the intention is to become carbon neutral and exclusively use 100% renewable energy across all operations by 2050.

The recent opening of the world’s most advanced and sustainable paint plant in Ashington, Northumberland is a major milestone in this journey.

Hugh Jones, Managing Director at The Carbon Trust said: “We are delighted to recognise AkzoNobel for its excellent performance in reducing carbon emissions, water use and waste. We would like to congratulate everyone at AkzoNobel that has contributed to this success.”

Susan Kendall, Sustainability Director UK & Ireland at AkzoNobel added: “Being recognised for the second time as best overall performer in the Carbon Trust Triple Standard is a source of great pride for us.

"However we will continue to evolve and to find innovative new ways to further reduce our environmental impact.”
