The Southerns Group, supplier of furniture, fixtures and equipment, has announced the acquisition of Bowman Projects for an undisclosed sum.

Announced yesterday, Southerns said the purchase of the Bowman fit-out operation is designed to supplement its existing interiors services and further assist with its ongoing expansion.

The group consists of four businesses and employs more than 220 staff in Leeds, Bolton, Macclesfield, Manchester and London.

Its clients include blue chip companies such as Microsoft, GE Capital, Lexmark International and BUPA and its turnover is in the region of £45m,

Announcing the Bowman purchase, the Southerns Group chief executive officer Andy Kendall-Jones said the two businesses have worked together previously and the purchase was a "shrewd addition to the group".

"We have always been impressed with the company's professionalism and output.

"It is a business that not only shares our values, in particular a determination to be 'best in class', but also adds to our offering through the provision of specialist fit-out services, essentially giving our clients the choice of a full end-to-end provision."

Mr Kendall-Jones added that there had been an "immediate impact" following the purchase.

Michaela Walker and Steve Bowman will lead the new division, with Ms Walker stating that work with the group had already begun "on some exciting projects for major companies and we're confident our fast-growing pipeline of new business will continue".

It was also announced that the group had purchased two new 11,000 sq ft units in Leeds to further assist expansion of its services and turnover.
