Merger of group members aimed at driving growth

03 July 2017

Fourfront Group has announced the merging of its Area Sq design and build and Cube fit-out contractor companies, which will now be jointly known as Area.

Gary Chandler, who was previously Area Sq Regions managing director, has been appointed chief executive officer of the newly-formed company.

Speaking exclusively to PFM at the official launch of Area last week, Mr Chandler said the merger is designed to create a more straightforward business model and open opportunities for further growth.

"Completing PQQs was becoming something of a chore and a little confusing with two identities, but it will now be much easier with one company," he said.

With a turnover in excess of £150m, the move has also resulted in increased opportunities for Area to bid for larger contracts, he continued, which has been something of a developing trend in recent years.

The group has increased its turnover by 80% over the last three years and the merger is seen as providing the potential to deliver more increases.

Area provides services ranging from design and build to detail and build aimed at end users, landlords and professional teams.

Mr Chandler said the merger will "enable us to be more agile and aligned to our clients and their requirements.

"With the creation Area, we are bringing together expertise, market knowledge and skills to create a platform for delivering excellence."

He further stated that no redundancies were planned as a result of the merger, as the emphasis of the move is delivering further growth.

Mr Chandler has formed a new executive leadership team with Traditional and Detail and Build divisions managing director Trevor Hall, Area London and Landlord division managing director Sion Davies, operations director Lee Marple and group design director James Geekie.

Fourfront Group founder and chief executive officer Clive Lucking, who formed the group in 2000, will continue in his role.
