Manifesto analysis released as momentum builds for General Election

21 May 2017

Analysis of the manifestos of the main political parties has been published by BIFM prior to the snap election called by prime minister Theresa May.

It looks at the manifestos of the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties and how these could impact on the FM sector, depending on the outcome of voting on 8 June. This follows the recent appointment of a senior policy advisor by BIFM "to help further the voice of our members and the wider FM sector", said acting chief executive Linda Hausmann."We hope that this position will help to strengthen the position of the institute as the authoritative voice of the profession," she said. The aim of the new role is to further policy development across BIFM activities and ensure that members are kept up to date with developments within the political arena and their effect on the industry.Ms Haufmann further stated that "business as usual" needs to be a major focus, particularly with Brexit featuring prominently within election discussions."With FM contributing up to 8% of UK GDP then its importance to the UK economy should not be underestimated," she said."I would therefore urge all of our members to review the documents prior to election day on 8 June."
