World FM Day celebrations begin

17 May 2017

A number of special events are being staged around the UK today to mark this year's World FM Day, which coincides with this year's deadline to enter the PFM Awards.

One of the most broad ranging is that of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which has a dual celebration.

Not only is it celebrating its one-year milestone in collaborating with the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), it is also drawing the industry's attention to its continuing advancement in the FM sector.

Its efforts with the IFMA have been aimed at continuing to assist the development of the global FM community and help to break down siloes between FM and the broader built environment industry, says RICS.

Its efforts with IFMA is designed to provide "an unprecedented level of industry support to meet the growing demands of the 25m FM practitioners around the world".

The partnership has already seen the launch of several focused initiatives to continue these aims.

IFMA chief executive officer and president Tony Keane, said: "What this collaboration has done is changed the conversation that we're seeing in the FM industry, and that is a real important aspect to raising the bar."

A video message from Mr Keane and RICS chief executive Sean Tompkins will be launched today, highlighting the collaboration between the two organisations.

Another of those joining in the celebrations is Metro Services Group (MSG), which is focusing on this year's theme of Enabling Positive Experiences.

The company is using World FM Day to emphasise its ability to offer a broad range of services for those seeking drainage, plumbing and chamber and wall rehabilitation supplies.

MSG will be posting images of staff holding up 'happy #WorldFMDay' signs as part of its celebrations.

FM companies tweeting messages in support of World FM Day and including @PFM_Magazine will have this retweeted to PFM Magazine's thousands of followers.
