Northumbria University ranked in top ten universities for facilities

30 March 2017

Northumbria University Newcastle has been ranked in the UK’s top 10 universities for its facilities in the 2017 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.

The survey is based on the responses of more than 15,000 undergraduates rating their university across 21 measures.

Students were asked to rate university facilities, including sports facilities, bars and shops on campus, and library facilities.

Student Living by Sodexo has been managing all of Northumbria University’s accommodation for the last year, with responsibility for over 3,300 beds in the University’s campus.

As part of this contract, Student Living by Sodexo manages the Trinity Square accommodation village in Gateshead, which houses nearly a thousand students and features a library hub, fitness suite and sports pitches.

Northumbria University is a research-rich, business-focused university with a global reputation for academic excellence.

It is one of the largest universities in the UK with more than 33,000 students from 135 countries.

Damon Kent, Director of Campus Services at Northumbria University said: “This is a great accolade for us, especially as it was voted for by students.

"To come in the top 10 from 122 other universities in the UK is a testament to the hard work of the facilities team at Northumbria, who have created a fantastic environment in which our students can live and learn.”

Steve Hawkins, European Divisional Director, Student Living by Sodexo commented; “We aim to put student experience at the heart of everything we do.

"We have a whole series of initiatives in place to support universities; everything from having student experience managers on the ground to help manage relationships with students, to offering employment opportunities and internships, through to employing a student board of directors to give is insight.

"We’re confident our approach is helping us deliver our university clients facilities and accommodation services that are truly student-focused.”
