Alumni Group launched to increase Armed Forces support

03 February 2017

Increased levels of collaboration are one of the aims of the new Alumni Group for UK organisations holding a Gold Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) scheme.

It has been formed in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MOD), including the Defence Relationship Management and Employer Engagement teams, but will be led by its member organisations.

There are more than 1,300 companies from both the private and public sectors signed up to the covenant.

Design, engineering and project management consultancy Atkins proposed the creation of the Alumni Group, which will be chaired by the company's Armed Forces champion Chris Jones.

Mr Jones will be succeeded by representatives from other member organisations in the future

The aim of the group is to work closely with the MOD to promote the Armed Forces Covenant and encourage more Armed Forces engagement with employers.

It also intends to provide an informed stakeholder sounding board for new initiatives that build on the successes already achieved.

Mr Jones said the group brings together gold-standard employers that have already exceeded their covenant pledges "and now want to do even more".

"The Alumni Group will provide member organisations with an opportunity to maintain the momentum we've all generated in our drive to achieved Gold Award status and to use that energy to support and inspire other like-minded employers to greater achievement, as well as experience the benefits of the partnership with Defence," he said.
