Improving Indoor Air Quality for Schools

16 December 2016

According to the Department for Education, in January 2016 there were 8,559,540 pupils attending 24, 288 schools throughout England*.

With approximately 75% of a pupils time spent inside, these figures raise concerns regarding exposure to high levels of CO2 as well as air pollutants.

Indoor air quality can directly affect pupil attendance and performance rates. In fact, research suggests that poor ventilation in the classroom significantly reduces a pupil’s attentiveness and vigilance whilst having a negative effect on concentration and memory.

Regular servicing and maintenance of a school’s heating and ventilation system helps improve the air quality and comfort of the overall learning environment.

Tidyco Limited Climate Control Division has been providing scheduled maintenance and repair services to schools for a number of years and has specific knowledge within the learning sector.

“Tidyco implements dedicated safeguarding procedures and all of our on-site engineers are fully DBS checked.” David Hithersay - Climate Control Division Manager explains; “We conduct thorough Health & Safety audits in order to generate school specific risk assessments and method statements.”

“Our engineers always have identity badges and wear branded uniform for added security and ease of identification.”

Tidyco Climate Control ensures that on-site work is completed in such a way so as to minimise disruption and disturbance to pupils.

“We work closely with schools to schedule maintenance around class timetables as well as implement policies whereby noise will not reach a specified level.”

David continues; “As well as improving the learning environment for pupils, we are committed to delivering efficiency gains and significant cost savings for the schools that we work with.”

Tidyco has developed the Asset Management System which allows customers to check service records and book an engineer visit directly from their smart device.

The application of remote staff monitoring and vehicle tracking provides cost transparency and helps reduce the carbon footprint via 'real time' management.
