Unitrunk lights the way to time savings at Bracknell NRQ regen scheme

24 November 2016

Unitrunk is to supply more than 700 metres of lighting trunking for the multi-storey car park at the heart of the ‘The Lexicon’; the showpiece retail and leisure destination in Bracknell, Berkshire under construction as part of the Northern Retail Quarter (NRQ) regeneration scheme.

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership’s NRQ scheme, designed by BDP Partnership, will transform Bracknell with the demolition of a number of existing buildings to make way for the new retail scheme, along with a cinema, cafes, restaurants, residential accommodation and public realm enhancements.

With 1,299 parking bays, the six-storey car park is critical to the success of the scheme in attracting footfall for both the retail occupiers and the night time economy.

Electrical contractor, Dornan Engineering, selected Unitrunk’s lighting trunking for the scheme because of the ease of installation it offers.

The company has now completed the first of the car park’s six storeys, with the remainder due to be handed over in February 2017. So far the trunking’s innovative design has reduced the installation time by 25 per cent as compared to conventional lighting trunking.

Comments James Ryan from Dornan Engineering: “We wanted a trunking product that was designed specifically for lighting installations and Unitrunk’s dedicated range was ideal.

“The system is cleverly designed to avoid the need for a separate joint which has made it much faster and easier to install.

"The project is being delivered to a very exacting programme to ensure that the major name retailers taking anchor stores can open on time and Unitrunk’s lighting trunking will help us to ensure that the car park is ready to welcome shoppers.”

Manufactured from pre-galvanised steel, Unitrunk’s lighting trunking is available in four standard lengths, with other lengths and finishes available to order.

The BS EN 10346: 2009 compliant system includes a wide range of fittings, all of which are fully compatible with all lighting trunking lengths to simplify ordering and make installation quicker and easier.

The Unitrunk lighting trunking has been suspended from the ceiling of the car park using threaded steel rods and Dornan Engineering will continue to use the same system throughout all six levels of the car park.

Tim Brown, national sales manager at Unitrunk, adds: “The NRQ scheme is a landmark project for the Thames Valley and we are delighted to be involved in a project that will totally transform the town centre.”
