Aldershot to benefit from £1.1bn MoD investment

07 November 2016

British Army facilities at Aldershot are set for a major upgrade delivered by an investment of £1.1bn announced by Defence Secretary Michael Fallon.

Upgrades to several garrisons will see improvements to those located on Salisbury Plain and at Aldershot, according to Eagle Radio.

This will include new and improved accommodation and additional infrastructure.

Included in the aims of the project is to provide facilities for soldiers returning from Germany and delivery of the majority of the Army Basing Programme.

With the four-year build programme due for completion in 2020, FM services will continue to be delivered up to 2041, it was announced.

It was further stated that Aspire Defence will "play a vital role" within the project.

Its service delivery was described as "a variation" of the Project Allenby/Connaught contract let by the MOD to company in 2006 for a 35-year term.

Aspire Defence chief executive Allan Thompson said the investment will allow "first-rate homes" to be created for soldiers "in return for the unique sacrifices they make for our country".

He further stated the project will enable his company "to sustain our successful record of the past decade delivering high-quality accommodation, garrison buildings and facilities management services to the British Army".
