Problem-hit Inverness school sees gas supply cut

19 September 2016

Inverness Royal Academy has had its gas supplies cut off in the latest incident since it opened a few weeks ago.

Previous issues have included intermittent power supply and ICT problems, according to www.heraldscotland.com

Following the latest occurrence, the Highland Council called in the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Gas Safe on 13 September.

The academy has also announced that supplies have been cut to classrooms including home economics, science, craft, design and technology.

A council spokesperson described the call to the HSE and Gas Safe as a "precautionary step", as the safety of those using the facility is "the main concern".

Further inspection of the pipework was then carried out and supplies were expected to be continued after any remedial work was completed, according to the spokesperson.

Heating and hot water systems have been unaffected at the academy.

Contractors Hub North Scotland and Morrison Construction were working on site to resolve the gas, power supply and incomplete ICT installations.

Describing the issues as "very unfortunate", the council spokesperson acknowledged the ongoing hard work and commitment of teaching and support staff to deliver the academy's curriculum.
