Employee Volunteer success celebrated

Mitie head of sustainability Neil Plant has won Employee Volunteer of the Year 2016 at BITC's Responsible Business West Midlands Awards.

Employed within the company's technical FM business, collected his award at the event, which was held in Birmingham and aims to recognise individuals who have created a significant impact in their local community through exceptional commitment to volunteering.

Mr Plan has entered his second decade of volunteering in the West Midlands and also helped to grow his employer's volunteering programme to a national scheme that includes more than 6,000 people and young people across the UK.

Over the past year alone, Mr Plant has dedicated over 200 hours to helping young people.

This has included establishing the Business and You initiative, formed to create better links between business and education, while promoting science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) topics in schools.
