Cofely’s ‘inspirational’ healthcare partnership tops the FM Awards

05 November 2015

For the third year running, Cofely has topped the bill at the PFM Awards 2015 held last night (4 November) at The Brewery in London. Their partnership with Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust won the Partners in Healthcare category and was selected as the PFM Awards 2015 Overall Winner.

The judges said, “This is an exceptional relationship where the supplier is very closely aligned with the objectives of the Trust and the needs of its patients by following a ‘whatever it takes’ service delivery philosophy.”

A wide range of hard and soft FM services are delivered by Cofely to the Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust as part of a 35 year PFI contract that covers two new build hospital sites - Pontefract and Pinderfields Hospitals.

Cofely’s contract has also evolved to cover service provision at new buildings as they are built on both sites. The judges were particularly impressed how this partnership had “touched the lives of the patients and their families and is an exemplar for other hospitals”. They pointed to the joint ventures working with the dementia team where Cofely have been extraordinarily resourceful with their ideas in sensitively augmenting room decoration.

They said: “They had also developed helpful solutions such as providing family support packs toiletries with the help of their downstream partners and sensitively designed and equipped end of life rooms. In addition, their activities supporting the spinal injuries unit included augmenting the exercise facilities and providing additional activities for these long term patients. Cofely had also involved others in their supply chain to provide in-kind support to their initiatives.
“In this inspirational relationship the FM provider has added real value to patient comfort and care well above contract requirements. This is an outstanding example of collaboration and partnership in action.”

It was a good night too for Mitie who won three awards. Alan Maunder, the leading light in its FM partnership with Essex County Council that won a PFM Award in 2014, was named Account Director of the Year, one of the new Awards for 2015, while James Bradley, Regional Manager with Mitie Technical Facilities Management claimed the Young Manager of the Year Award.

In the Facilities Technology Innovation Award, Mitie’s web based portal MiWorld developed with Sky UK topped this category for the way it gives full transparency of data across their estate. The contribution of Ian Sarson, Group Managing Director of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has made to the hospitality sector throughout his working life was recognised with the Peter Middup Lifetime Achievement in FM Award. Ian is a passionate support of the industry and is also currently vice Chair of the Business Services Association.

Now in its 22nd year, the PFM Awards are recognised as the premier accolade for best practice in partnership for the delivery facilities and support services across a broad spectrum of organisations in the private and public sectors. In total 17 PFM Awards were presented at the prestigious black tie dinner hosted by TV presenter and newscaster, Fiona Bruce, in front of more than 500 FM leaders, professionals, clients and guests.
