EMCOR UK 'first FM company to earn BS 8903, reassessed to 'Expert' status for competence in key areas'

26 August 2015

“Expert” status has been designated by Action Sustainability (the organisation that was the technical author of BS 8903) as the third of four tiers: Improver, Competent, Expert and Leader. There are no FM companies that have yet achieved “Leader” status.

Being assessed to “Expert” status and “demonstrating competence in all areas” required a thorough assessment of EMCOR UK’s knowledge in three key areas, summarised below:
• Fundamentals: organisational policy and strategy; procurement policy and strategy
• Enablers: leadership and governance; risk; engagement; measurement; people
• Procurement processes: identify business need; define sourcing strategy; identify suppliers and tenders; evaluate and award; implement; management performance and relationship; review and learn.

Mark Turner, Senior Consultant, Action Sustainability, commented: “It is with great pleasure that Action Sustainability has assessed EMCOR UK to BS 8903 ‘Expert’ status, for actively changing the way it does business.  By delivering a root and branch response and addressing the full range of existing and emerging sustainability challenges, EMCOR UK has demonstrated the ability to positively impact its customers, business, and the environment.”

Keith Chanter, CEO, EMCOR UK, stated: “EMCOR UK is engaged in working relationships with some of the UK’s leading organisations across a wide variety of sectors and, as such, the services we provide and the products and services we procure touch millions of people every day. Sustainability in procurement is becoming increasingly important for our customers and a greater factor in the tender process for new contracts.

"EMCOR UK looks forward to continuing being an early adopter of key standards in sustainable procurement, with the forthcoming ISO standard being the next EMCOR UK looks forward to leading, on behalf of the FM industry and for the advantage of its customers.”
