J&C Joel puts sports centre stage

21 August 2015

Manufacturer of flame retardant fabrics and flooring, J&C Joel, is expanding its work with sports venues following the successful completion of a number of projects across the UK

While the majority of J&C Joel’s clients can be found in the world of entertainment – from West End productions to TV shows, right through to school productions – the company can also turn its hand to projects in community spaces such as sports halls and conference centres, installing drapes and tracks for varied uses.

Most recently J&C Joel’s expertise has been applied to Serco Leisure’s Lilleshall National Sports and Conferencing Centre (Lilleshall NSC) in Shropshire and Queens Sports Club in Halifax.

Lilleshall NSC is a residential training centre often used by the Great British Gymnastics team. The Centre, which offers a range of sporting facilities for hire, is used by both professionals and the general public.

To enable the main sports hall space to be used for two separate sporting activities at a time, J&C Joel supplied and installed a large Triple E Unibeam track and acoustic curtain made of coloured wool serge to allow the space to be quickly and easily divided in two.

The J&C Joel team selected specialist acoustic fabrics and recommended a curtain with in-built air pockets, which prevents sound passing through the material and therefore minimises the noise interruption between the two activities.

Ahead of the peak tennis season, J&C Joel worked with Queens Sports Club, Halifax, to install new green canvas drapes for the tennis courts. The Club offers members a range of facilities, including stunning tennis and squash courts and a fully equipped gym. The new drapes needed to be durable and high quality, plus the right colour to create an authentic aesthetic effect.

Fraser Davidson, Senior Project Engineer, said: “As a fabric and flooring manufacturer, J&C Joel is well-known for its work in events and entertainment. However, these recent projects demonstrate how our expertise and products can be applied to a wide range of venues and projects. The durable and acoustic fabrics, along with our engineering solutions, are suited to a range of purposes, from sports clubs to arenas and stadiums.”

J&C Joel has recently launched its new website and catalogue, which includes enhanced technical information and clear product sections to allow customers to navigate the range of products available with ease.
